From the Board of Advocates

November 14, 2015

The Board of Advocates congratulates Baylor’s School of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) on its 20th anniversary! Over the past 20 years, we have witnessed firsthand its evolution from a new School to a leader among its peer institutions, producing highly qualified graduates with a Christian worldview.

Meet the Board

ECS students acquire leadership skills, relevant industry knowledge and a strong technical foundation. The School offers electrical and computer and mechanical degrees along with a general engineering degree with biomedical, environmental, geo/petro or humanitarian engineering concentrations. Computer science has expanded its core offerings to include a bioinformatics degree. The School has plans to expand its doctoral programs to include computer science in addition to electrical & computer engineering and mechanical engineering.

ECS creates differentiation among its peer institutions by teaming with other Baylor disciplines (such as biology for bioinformatics and business for entrepreneurship) to provide students with broader skills and experiences, and by leveraging the facilities and capabilities of the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC) to expand Baylor’s technology innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities. Strong Curricula

Committed Leadership

ECS benefits from strong leaders with a vision for success, a passion for innovative ideas, a commitment to research and the ability to manage change. These leaders include the deans (Drs. Jim Bargainer, Ben Kelley and Dennis O’Neal), department chairs and faculty members in addition to Baylor’s administration and Board of Regents.

The significant accomplishments over the past 20 years provide a strong foundation for ECS to build on for the future. Future success will involve expanding academic programs, faculty appointments and facilities for research and student labs. We encourage all alumni and friends to join our efforts to develop the School of Engineering & Computer Science as we send graduates with the “Baylor Difference” into the fields of engineering and computer science.
